Do I need probiotics?

Probiotics are everywhere—hailed as a solution for gut health. Maybe you've tried

them but didn’t get the results you expected. You’re not alone! While probiotics can

be helpful, they often aren’t enough by themselves.

Hi, I’m Rebecca Winter, a Systematic Kinesiologist and Health Coach. In my

practice, I use Kinesiology to uncover imbalances in your body: structural, nutritional,

emotional, and energetic. Today, I’d love to explain why probiotics might not be the

magic fix if introduced too soon and how to effectively approach digestive health.

Should I Add a Probiotic to My Supplement Routine?

Probiotics can be beneficial, but not all are created equal. Some even contain hidden

sugars, which can hinder progress. Before jumping into probiotics, it’s essential to

take a more holistic approach. This is where the 5R protocol comes in—a step-by-

step method to restore digestive health used in both functional medicine and

Systematic Kinesiology.

The 5R Approach to Digestive Health

The 5R protocol is a practical framework for getting your gut health back on track.

Let’s explore each stage:

1. Remove

Start by eliminating anything causing gut irritation. This could include specific foods,

harmful bacteria, or infections. Using Kinesiology, we can pinpoint exactly what

needs to be removed—whether it’s cutting out certain foods like dairy or addressing

an overgrowth of yeast like Candida.

2. Replace

If your body isn’t producing enough digestive enzymes or stomach acid, your

digestion can struggle. Replacing what’s missing is key for absorbing nutrients

effectively. Kinesiology helps determine which supplements or enzymes your body

needs to function smoothly.

3. Reinoculate

Once your gut is clear and supported, it’s time to introduce **probiotics**. However,

probiotics are most effective after the first two steps are complete. We can identify

the right strains tailored to your body’s needs, as each strain has a different role.

4. Repair

After balancing digestion, you may need to heal the gut lining, especially if you suffer

from "leaky gut." This involves strengthening the gut barrier through the right nutrition

and supplements, which Kinesiology can help identify.

5. Rebalance

Finally, maintaining balance is crucial. Continue with healthy habits like managing

stress, staying active, and monitoring trigger foods. With a balanced gut, your body

may even tolerate foods that once caused discomfort—but it’s always best to test

these changes with Kinesiology.

The Takeaway

Probiotics can be an excellent tool for gut health, but they work best as part of a

larger plan. Addressing gut irritants and supporting digestion first is key. By following

the **5R protocol**, probiotics can make a real difference in how you feel.
